    I teach the bent leg method with both feet/toes pointing same direction. Yes it’s safer (very important) but also your whole body is aligned to rotate and pull uke in the circular direction of the throw. Tori keeps rotating hips (pivoting on the ball of rear leg) until you can see your left heel (leading leg). This removes the possibility of falling with uke and allows Tori to stay directly above Uke to control or move into additional techniques.

    As a Japanese jujutsu practitioner, I totally agree with you. Keep making these great videos to maintain the true essence of the original Judo. True Judo shows both its jujutsu roots as well as its own changes and development to make it a great art. Keep on promoting the true complete art of Judo.

    Hi Sensei. Could you make a video, giving some advice to avoid injuring your lower back and hips, doing hip throws such as O-goshi, Kochi-guruma,... or other takedowns like ippon seio nage, where you lift your opponent. I used to train with my master, and despite of being a great uke, he's quite heavier than me. My hips and lower back hurt, after some classes when we train tachi-waza. Thank you for this useful channel

    Really like this graceful combo, and i see you do tai otoshi safely with your heel up, knee down in case uki falls on your blocking leg, i have students that are afraid of using tai otoshi thinking their knee is in danger, but tai otoshi is a great self defense throw- say , in response to a common haymaker punch tori takes uki's punch on both hands and "sling" into a tai otoshi, very practical

    Combinations is the way judo was meant to be played. I learned that way too late. When I played the mantra was “ learn two throws very well and used them.” That was bad teaching. The concept of : Tsukuri-> kuzushi->kake was Glossed over. Throws are not as effective if the attempt is done without it And few extremely skillful players achieve a consistent throw without it. I see it all the time noone does the uchikomi while the opponent is off balance by moving the opponent around. They try the throw while opponent is standing in front and then while trying to be as fast as possible attempt to unbalance while the fit in is executed, well this ends in failure or half arse throws with little self defense application btw. If the opponent has one foot off the mat when you attempt your throw the efficiency from “ least effort maximum efficiency “ axiom becomes a reality. I have thrown like that a few times merely by pure timing out if luck luck not because I Strategized because I was never taught it. It was magic and effortless and I never understood it till years later when I studied other systems that required a strike to execute a throw. I remember when I did it my partner asked how I had done that and I was at a loss of words to explain it. Throwing some one without executing strikes like it is done in judo takes speed strength and stamina specially without Tsukuri-kuzushi-kake . It is extremely easier to throw if one strikes while With taisabaki-tsukuri-kuzushi and kake Combinations is the way to succeed. Every attempt counts for a referee even if is a fake so a Penalty is avoided. Keep opponents on their toes! Then attempt and then do kuzushi. I am 70 yrs old and my body can not do it the clean Judo way,but I can do it if I strike beforehand. It is hard to build a clean throw but easy to destroy with a dirty self defense throw. Judo had gotten worse as far as rules and such but am glad some teachers are emphasizing the right ways to execute. Combinations ,Combinations! Try when only one of opponent’s foot is on the mat Ganbatte!

    Hello, this ( and another video from the official Kodokan judo with Takimoto Makoto ) brought me great success with Hane Goshi, a technique I knew existed, but always thought about as "not for me". As it turned out, not only I could finally do it after giving it a try, but I even developed a knack for it, and I am now officially hooked. I have tried Harai Goshi and Uchi Mata for a long time, but without much success. Now, this Hane Goshi ( which I kind of dismissed in my mind before ) was instant success and instant love. I would say it fits me very well. This is the first time in my life I have this feeling, and I couldn't help myself from writing about it. Many many thanks to Sampson Judo. I just cannot wait to go back to the mats and drill it over and over. Matthieu, a french man living in Japan ( born in 1982 )

    Is there any situation why this would be used over Tai-Otoshi?

    • @LanguageHelp
      @LanguageHelp 24 дня назад

      If you see mifune's Taio and the way he does it without a leg, you will realize that these are two different techniques. One, in essence, is a te waza that you don't need an axis or leg for. The other requires the leg as an axis as is the case here. So my argument is that these are two different things and the situation is going to determine which one you use. Taio and oguruma happen to be my favorites along with osoto and uchimata and sasae. Every time I hit oguruma it was a nagase style. Every time I hit Taio it's off the grip or because uke really held on to my sleeve and resisted my grip break. This is just my opinion. Feel free to disagree.

    • @TheRealDr.Mabuse
      @TheRealDr.Mabuse 23 дня назад

      First off, I'd say that this is not how O guruma is thought in Japan and such raises questions as yours. This video is slightly better and maybe gives you a better understanding of when it can be used: ruclips.net/video/XEULdkGNsaA/видео.html

    • @LanguageHelp
      @LanguageHelp 22 дня назад

      @@TheRealDr.Mabuse thank you for the video. I respect shintaro's judo but I disagree with his classification of the moves and entry to oguruma. O guruma needs a rotation so you have to pull before entry and the leg is an axis (lookup nagase). Harai is a sweep not a fixed leg. Taio does not even need the leg because it is a te waza. Also, I believe Japanese judo, the one I am familiar with, is different from the American understanding of it, presented here by shintaro. Shintaro is not a reference in my eyes.
